Program Overview

The Creative Initiatives in Teacher Education (CITE) is a graduate-level teacher preparation program in collaboration with the 糖心少女, College Park (UMD) and the Maryland State Department of Education. Successful program completion results in a Master's of Education (M.Ed.) degree and eligibility for a Maryland teaching certificate in grades 1 through 6.

Learning Goals
  • Identify characteristics of effective schools, teachers, classrooms, and teaching strategies.
  • Apply research-based strategies in establishing personal relationships, building a positive classroom climate, and managing classroom tasks
  • Employ high-leverage practices fundamental to teaching to assist students in learning important content and support their social and emotional development.   
  • Identify and practice research-based teaching strategies through small and large group instructional sessions.
  • Create and implement engaging targeted lesson plans focused on curriculum indicators and expectations, including student outcome identification, modeling, guided practice, independent practice, and assessment.
  • Incorporate effective educational technology to enhance instruction for student learning.

Admission Requirements

This program follows all of the , plus the following:

  • Current employee of a Maryland school district
  • Three professional recommendations including one from current principal/supervisor
  • CV/Resume outlining experiences working with children
  • Demonstrated completion of MSDE required prerequisite courses for credit in math, English, science, and social sciences
  • Review the Foundational Competencies (FC) & Model Code of Ethics for Educators (MCEE) Introduction and .
